The following is an encouraging update from a staff member at one of our sister churches in Malawi, Africa. Your giving provided the necessary funds to make these events possible. Thank you!
Malawi has 3 major cities: Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu. For the first time, we now have 3 Flood Churches in each of these cities! Together, we got to host the SALT Conference in all three of them. The SALT Conference, which stands for Summit for African Leadership Transformation, is a conference for college students and recent graduates with the goal to equip them with leadership skills. This year's theme was “Ndi Nthawi Yanga” which translates to “It’s My Time”. The aim was to help the participants see themselves as not just future leaders, but as people who can begin leading where they are now.
The three conferences had different keynote speakers and different panelists; however, they all centered the conversation on the kind of leadership Malawi needs. These steps that they learned during the keynote sessions were then explored further in workshops. These workshops had the aim of giving the participants practical skills such as “How to interview well”, “How to write a resume”, and “How to make career goals”. At the end of the conference each participant got a certificate of participation. In the end, across the 3 cities, we had about 350 people attend! That is a milestone we could not have anticipated, but so happy God was faithful in stirring these young people’s hearts to attend.
One story we can’t stop sharing happened at the largest university in Mzuzu. A group of seniors walked by the auditorium and asked what was happening. We invited them to come join us and to invite their friends. Much to our surprise, they did invite their friends, and participated in the entire conference! They then asked for us to organize transportation for them to attend church the next day. This group of students has taken so much interest in our church, that we are starting a Growth Group with them on campus!! Seeing God do so much with our obedience to host this Conference has been an awe to witness. We can’t wait to send more updates in the future of what God is doing in the city of Mzuzu!
