Strong Families: Local Team

Description

DESCRIPTION: Strong Families is a collaboration between Olive Crest, churches, and volunteers designed to support at-risk children and parents in need. It provides an opportunity for volunteers to have a powerful impact in the lives of others while practicing biblical hospitality and extending the love of Christ to people in need.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED: There are two opportunities to get involved in this team. You are welcome to choose one or both options!

OPTION 1: Become a Host Family
Parents experiencing a temporary crisis such as hospitalization, or a longer-term crisis, such as drug abuse, can arrange for their children (newborn through 18 years old) to stay with a volunteer Host Family while they address their needs. A Host Family from Flood is connected to the Strong Families ministry team at Flood, which in turn is supported by professional child care specialists. Children are matched with families in their own community whenever possible, and placements average from one day to three months. During that time, caseworkers are available to provide volunteers with support and answer any questions they might have.

Designed to extend and strengthen the community safety net for families in crisis, this is a positive alternative to the state child welfare system, allowing parents to work out their problems without having to worry about losing custody of their children. The program's goal is to reunite children with their biological parent(s) in a home that is more stable and healthy.

To learn more about opening your home and caring for vulnerable children, you are invited to attend Olive Crest's virtual informational meeting on the first Thursday of each month from 6-7pm. Contact to get the link to RSVP.

OPTION 2: Support Host Families at Flood
Help support a Host Family from Flood by dropping off a meal, and/or provide basic necessities such as hygiene items, diapers, clothes, toys or school supplies to the child(ren) being hosted.

Other forms of support may include babysitting for the Host Family, helping with transportation for the hosted child(ren), and praying for the Host Family and the hosted child(ren).
