Youth Pastor Job Description
TITLE: Youth Pastor
REPORTS TO: TBA
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time position with benefits, Sunday-Thursday work week
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
First and foremost, we are committed to Jesus Christ’s church and believe all Flood Staff provide spiritual leadership to our congregation regardless of specific role, duty or title. We believe in the priesthood of all believers. Below are expectations we have for all full-time Flood Staff.

- Additionally, we ask all full-time staff to:
- Actively disciple others towards integrated lives of faith, community and action
- Participate in weekly Staff Meetings to provide support and leadership to our congregation
- Lead staff devotions, prayers and celebrations
- Participate in all staff development and enrichment activities to grow in Christlike character and various competencies
- Participate in “all hands on deck” events to represent and serve the greater needs of our community
- Provide presence and support on Sundays as requested
- Perform baptisms as requested
- Facilitate communion as requested
- Provide teaching and equipping as requested
- Provide short term counseling/support as requested
- Licensed Pastors officiate weddings and funerals as requested
The Pastor to Youth is responsible to create, develop, and oversee environments for students (6th-12th grade) that are in line with the framework of the Flood’s vision.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Youth Environments
- Sunday Program
- Provide vision, direction and leadership for programming and teaching
- Midweeks Program and Groups
- Oversee organizing, leadership and resourcing for large and small groups
- Online Offerings (meet students where they are at)
- Maintain all Flood Youth Social Media accounts and post regularly
Youth Events and Initiatives
- Relationship-Building Events
- Camps/Retreats/Trips
- All-Church Events Integration
- Integrate students to All-Church Events, such as, The Christmas Collective and Flood Family Rally (all church conference), etc
- Provide opportunities for students to pursue baptism
- Consistent Service and Outreach Opportunities
Youth Discipleship and Contact Work
- Connection with students outside of programs
- Attend (and/or volunteers) extra-curricular activities when possible (E.g., plays, games).
- Student Leadership Team Development
- On Campus presence at High Schools and Middle Schools
- Develop, equip and resource a student leadership team
Parents and Family Connecting
- Clear and consistent communication with parents/guardians
- Relationship-building / A.R.E. (Available, Responsive, Engaged) with parents/guardians
Oversee Leadership Development and Resourcing of Volunteer Leaders
- Recruit and Develop Volunteer Leader Team
- Train and Resource Volunteer Leaders
- Lead Team of Volunteers during weekly programs
- Provide regularly monthly one on ones with leaders to provide pastoral care and leadership development
YOUTH MINISTRY EXPECTATIONS
- Keeper and sharer of the overall vision of all student environments
- Keeping up-to-date records of students
- Clear and consistent communication of the full Gospel, in both word and deed
- Organize and communicate Youth Calendar to students, volunteers, and parents/guardians
- Oversee, lead and disciple interns and volunteers for Flood Youth
- Volunteers are recruited, trained, deployed and reviewed on a consistent basis Includes initial background check and interview process
- Any issues that arise with volunteers/students/parents are troubleshot
- On Ramping processes are in place for new students and families
- Relationships with students are an individual and team priority
- Make sure legal forms are on file for youth i.e. parental release forms
- Communicate with parents on a consistent basis
- Communicate with students about upcoming weekly events via e-mail, text, and all necessary social media outlets
- Communicate to volunteer team about upcoming events
- Keep website updated with events and information
- Utilize social media as needed
FLOOD STAFF EXPECTATIONS
- Meet regularly with Supervisor, teachable and receptive to: Correction/Feedback/Encouragement
- Prepare and steward annual ministry budget for Flood Youth
- Supervise Undergraduate Interns (when offered)
- Ongoing development of life rhythm, including daily time with God, weekly Sabbath, seasonal retreat, etc.
- Attend a Sunday gathering
- Commit to and Participate regularly in giving financially to Flood
- Continuing education: Look for ways in which to keep on the cutting edge of student ministry
- Network with youth leaders (locally and beyond) for support and furthering own development in youth work
- Email/Phone Follow Up & Communication within 24-48 Hours
- Work/Event Environment: Professional, Clean, Organized
- Developing Teams to help you get the work done and be able to delegate responsibilities to your team
- Pursuing your own growth and healthy development mentally, spiritually, and emotionally
