The Book of James: Faith That Works

Faith Without Deeds

Family, I am m deeply humbled and honored by the privilege and responsibility of bringing God's Word this Sunday. Pastor Matt has invited me to share parts of my faith journey and I’m grateful for the opportunity. I first came to City Heights, San Diego, on July 3, 2009, for JUST a summer mission trip. What I’ve learned since then is this: I have my plans, but God always has His plans. Seventeen summers later, I’m still here—which mostly means I’m getting older (ha!), but also that God’s call on my life continues to unfold. We’ll continue our summer series in the book of James, focusing on James 2:14-26 and Luke 10:30-37.—the story of the Good Samaritan. My hope is that we’ll gain fresh insight from this classic parable and reflect together on what it means to live out a faith that is alive—a faith that moves beyond belief into action. Is faith without deeds truly dead? Is God calling us beyond our current realities into something more?
