As we seek to cultivate a transforming community it is essential that we learn how to be present, ask good questions and listen well. A person who asks a thoughtful question, waits patiently for you to sort through your thoughts and feelings, and then asks a follow-up question that helps you to say what you need to say is a gift! Spiritual conversation just doesn’t get any better than that!
This Sunday we are continuing our Eastertide message series, "All Together Now: Community that Changes Us" in Luke 24:13-35. In verses 15-17 Jesus models to us how to be present with someone in their pain. He demonstrates the ability to simply listen and be present without attempting to fix, offer advice, or problem solve. He intuitively knows these two discouraged and disoriented disciples need to tell the story of what they had just experienced and how it impacted them in their own words. They needed someone to be present to them in the midst of their uncertainty and pain. And so do we! May we become a community that listens well!
