Most often our spiritual progress is a gradual, daily process. Yet there are times when Christians experience God in a deeply transforming way. The Holy Spirit brings a remarkable awareness of the Lord’s holy presence and people respond with awe and an overwhelming desire to turn from sin and fully please him. When this kind of awakening happens as a shared experience in a church, community or nation it is called a revival. Jonah chapter 3 describes the miracle of revival in the wicked city of Nineveh. Historians tell us that Nineveh experienced famines, plagues, revolts and eclipses that may have created an openness to Jonah’s message. But, the revival that shook Nineveh from top to bottom was a God-given miracle. So, how does this ancient revival speak to us as modern day Christ followers?
